ALBUQUERQUE, NM –The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) has given PanTeXas Deterrence LLC (PXD) notice to proceed with the Pantex Plant's Management and Operations (M&O) contract in Amarillo, Texas. Los Alamos Technical Associates, Inc (LATA), one of three small business subcontractors named on the contract, commenced transition activities mid-July 2024.
The contract continues LATA’s 48-year history of supporting the nation’s nuclear deterrence mission through waste management and environmental services. With offices in Amarillo, Texas, and current work at Pantex, LATA is set to offer local knowledge and workforce to the PXD team.
"As a Texas-Panhandle native, I am particularly proud of LATA’s role on the PXD team as a named subcontractor," said Robin Beard, Chief Executive Officer of LATA. "This award reflects the team's expertise in support of the Pantex mission, dedication to safety, and proven track record in delivering high-quality solutions for complex challenges.”
The contract includes a four-month transition period that started July 15, 2024 and a five-year base period with three five-year options, for a total contract period of up to 20 years and four months if all options are exercised.
“For over 40 years, Pantex has been the nation’s primary nuclear weapon assembly and disassembly center, allowing the nuclear deterrent to stay safe, secure, and reliable at all times,” said Jill Hruby, NNSA Administrator. “The selection of PanTeXas Deterrence through full and open competition will help us accelerate weapon delivery and technology insertion, execute our infrastructure modernization, and continuously improve safety and security.”
PXD is a joint venture led by a BWX Technologies, Inc. (BWXT) subsidiary – it also includes Fluor; SOC, A Day & Zimmermann Company; and The Texas A&M University System. The team also includes three pre-selected small business subcontractors: TechSource, Inc., LATA, and Mission Assurance Alliance.
